Tag der deutschen Einheit
Tonight I went to the German embassy in DC for Tag der deutschen Einheit (Germany Reunification Day). I didn't take any pictures because I wasn't sure if I was supposed to, so this picture is from October 3rd two years ago when I went to Oktoberfest in Munich (sort of in the same vein I suppose; both events celebrated the same holiday but the one at the embassy was much more formal). It was great. They had speakers, music, olympic medalists, and food food food! It was all very traditional so I got to eat everything that I miss from Germany. The embassy was beautiful and HUGE. I've never been to it before and was very impressed (although I'm sure all the embassies in that area are equally impressive). There were hundreds of people there and the majority of the celebration was outside. Even though it was "business attire" for dress, there were still women wearing dirndls! It was definitely a fun experience. Happy Tag der deutschen Einheit!
