Distinguishing between foods

Do you ever just eat without thinking because the food is there? Even if you're not hungry?

The other day, Chris and I were in the car and I was passing him goldfish as he drove. He would eat one and I would pass him more. After about 5 minutes of this, I passed him a pretzel instead. He didn't notice, so I kept giving him goldfish afterwards again. He had no clue that he had eaten a pretzel! I have to say, pretzels and goldfish taste nothing alike and pretzels are a lot harder than goldfish, but even after I told him he had eaten a pretzel, he didn't realize!

So have you ever eaten something without thinking and realized later it was actually something else? I know Lauren has - and it involves a Christmas tree light that she thought was a piece of candy, but I'll let her tell her own story :)

In my defense, the pretzels are still shaped like goldfish! There are no different shapes or anything and the textures are pretty similar.

Not quite the same thing, but I remember being at a party in Germany and eating these delicious stuffed mushrooms most of the night...until I found out they were snails! Of course, I wouldn't touch them after that!

Haha, oh geez... well I definitely knew I wasn't eating candy when I put the light in my mouth and crunched on it. But it is pretty interesting to think about how we can zone out and just eat because food is there.

This is probably your finest piece of photography yet. Just thought you should know!

And goldfish rule.

Katie, I just logged on to say the same thing as Robert ... this is a gorgeous picture. It's the type of picture a food stylist would create and photograph. I can taste the salt on those pretzels, they are photographed so well. I was also going to say that I need a life, but if Robert, too, admired the photograph, perhaps it's simply that I have a good eye as well!!!!!
