Last weekend when friends were in town we decided to head up to Charlottesville to go apple picking! This is the first time I've been this season. The weather is just starting to turn; it's really cold in the morning and warms up a bit with a cool breeze in the afternoon. I'm getting into that mood where I want to bake an apple pie, so this trip came at the perfect time. We headed to a place called Carter Mountain Orchards where we drove up a mountain to get to the trees. The view from up there was gorgeous!
I am very particular when it comes to apples for my pie, so I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect apples. I found an awesome looking one and had to do a bit of jumping and reaching in order to get it. I would have just had Chris get it, but (1) he wasn't in the best of moods because we dragged him apple picking during the Redskins game and (2) he was sent back to the car by all of us girls with our sweatshirts so we wouldn't have to carry them around, so he wasn't there when I found this one. Plus, it would have taken away some of the fun to have him grab it with ease. When he returned, his spirits were lifted much higher due to the fact that he found apple doughnuts on his way back from the car. He even saved us each one!
(This is a picture of Jennie enjoying one of her favorite apple picking past times... taking a bite out of an apple while it's still hanging from the tree and leaving it for someone else to find later!) We all had a lot of fun and I'm excited because in the next couple of days, we're going to have apple pie!
