Devastation in the yard

As you all know, we have been having some water issues. This is supposedly being resolved today!! I'm going to save my elatement until we actually have water - and you'll see why when you scroll through these pictures.

Our landlord called us this week to let us know that on Friday they were aiming to replace the main water line. I knew this would be quite a project and I am SO thankful it's finally getting done. I can't wait to take my first decent shower in over 2 weeks!

This morning at 7:30 AM, a handful of men showed up with heavy machinery and drove it up onto the lawn.

 

We were warned that they'd be cutting the water off for the day. And even before we left for work this morning they were already digging!

After I saw this mess starting before work, I knew it was going to be a disaster. And sure enough, I got a facebook message from a friend around mid-morning saying she walked by the house and saw a trench! I was picturing a thin little trench in which they would dig out the pipe and replace it with a new one. Until Chris went home for lunch. He said it looked crazy! Then I told him to take some pictures while he was there, which he did:

 

 

Look at that guy in the trench! Our landlord told Chris that the pipe was 8-9 feet down there, which was lower than he was expecting originally. When Chris called me after lunch he said, "there are like 10 or 11 guys just standing around the trench in our front yard looking down at it."

Around 2:30 PM Chris got a message from our landlord saying that the project was taking longer than expected. Apparently the ground was too wet deeper down so the trench kept collapsing on the workers. They didn't know how to continue, so they had the town building inspector from Farmville out there along with a couple other official sounding people brainstorming; hence all the people Chris saw on his lunch break. He also suggested we buy a 5 gallon jug of water "just in case", but that they were still going to try to get it done tonight.

When I got home from work tonight they were still hard at work. This is what our yard looks like currently:

Anyway, I will do my best to get some pictures of the yard after they fill the trench back in, (if they fill the trench back in!) but as the weather man is calling for snow, I'm not sure I'll get any good ones. In the meantime, thank you for praying for us! Please continue! I will be one happy camper if they turn our water back on tonight!
