We just finished our taxes! Unfortunately our results weren't as good as last year when we got an awesome return. This year - due to both of us changing jobs and the "making work pay" tax credit which makes you think you earn more money than you actually do - we owed money.
But thankfully, we had some moving expenses and the Lifetime Learning credit for my school last semester to make our grand total go down. It was awesome to watch the little ticker roll off money from our total here or there!
All I have to say is, thank goodness for programs that figure this all out for you. I remember filing my taxes while I was a dependent and earning very little money and they seemed so simple! If I had to do the taxes on my own this year, it would have made my head spin...
Do you wait until April to try to get everything in before the deadline, or do you try to get them out of the way early? I'm an early-bird. Just one more thing to cross off my list, and one less thing to think about later!

I always wait, I don't procrastinate on anything else but taxes. My goal is to break even; Feds usually works out, but State changes so much I just can't work it out, fortunately, it usually mean a check for me! Congrats on getting yours done early!
Filed mine already. Thank goodness I contribute to 401k or else I would have owed as well. And the tax deduction for the sales tax on the Challenger helped to lower my taxable income as well! But I did get a few benjamins back this year!
congrats on getting them done early! i have all my paperwork ready to go, just gotta do it! :)
what program did you use? i need to find one to use!
Jennie - turbotax
did ya'll buy it?
We borrowed it - I guess if you buy the program, you can download it on up to something like 3 or 4 computers. So you should get it with roommates or friends and all use it together if you want it (save some money!!)
ooh good idea! thanks!
