Stereotypes aren't always true

I'll admit that there are a lot of stereotypes that surround students who attend certain colleges.  For example, at W&M everyone who attends is considered either really intelligent or socially awkward, or both.  But I met a lot of people who weren't that smart, and a lot of really cool people with awesome social skills.

That being said, there are a lot of stereotypes about the guys who attend the school where we work.  One of the biggest ones is that they're rich.  This school is expensive and that is true for a lot of kids that attend, but it's certainly not true of all.  However, this week something happened that surprised even me.

Can you see it through the trees?

How about now?

Yeah.  A student's dad flew in for the lacrosse game.

I don't know about you, but my dad didn't do this when I was in college.  And I didn't know anyone else's parents who did either.

It was pretty crazy.  But then the guy flew really close down to the field and press box.

So, since I proved this stereotype at least partially true, I've decided to temper this post by disproving another stereotype about college students in general.  See, it's a well known stereotype that college students all passed grammar school spelling.  But that's just not true.  Exhibit one:  this note was left on my desk this week.

If you didn't notice, let me zoom in for you:
I had no words when I read this note.  Consider that stereostype disproven.

Love the helicopter. You know that the WGFP used to fly a small plane to pick up Dad from college when he was at UT and they lived in Vienna VA!
