I love the 4th of July! It is an awesome holiday celebrating awesome things and it's a great excuse to get together with friends, grill, relax, and watch fireworks. This year we spent the 4th at a friends' house on the York River. They have a little sandy beach in their backyard and anchored in the river they had an giant floating raft. As soon as we got there, we changed into bathing suits and headed out to float on the river. After awhile we got called back in for dinner and we ate some delicious barbecue with lots of sides brought by everyone who came. The family even has their own frisbee golf hole, and naturally, Chris keeps his frisbee golf disc in the car, so he was able to play. There were lots of other babies around for Eleanor to play with, and since our friends have a baby just around Eleanor's age, there were also lots of baby-friendly activities, like an incredible swing next to the river that her dad rigged up high into a tree.
We had a great 4th of July and are very thankful to live in this country. Being outside breaking bread with friends is essentially my favorite way to spend an evening so we're planing for many more nights like these this summer.
