Field trips

None of my kids have had field trips since Covid, but this year field trips have started up again - just in time for 4th grade! The 4th graders learn VA history so generally get to go to Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. Eleanor went to Jamestown last month and I got to go to Yorktown (the museum there is my favorite) with her class.

With her buddies on the bus, Karen and Amelia.

Checking out a Revolutionary War sleeping tent made for 6.

One square meal a day is what these soldiers got...

Here is her class at Jamestown last month (ships in the background).

Jane's class also got to go on a field trip to Jamestown, but focused a little more on the Native American villages and the Powhatan tribe (vs. the settlers coming over from England that they study in 4th grade). They saw how the Powhatans made canoes out of trees...

Checked out the Godspeed (one of the ships that brought the original colonists over).

It was very fun to get to meet some of the friends Jane regularly talks about.

They watched a musket demonstration, as well (not Jane's favorite).

It's very fun to live so close to so much history.
