Rome - Day 1

Chris and I went to Italy! The girls went to summer camp (more on this soon) and my mom agreed to watch the twins while we were gone. We only found out the girls got a spot at camp in late April and didn't get everything lined up for us to go until about 7 weeks out, so it was a bit of last minute planning. But it's also the first time we've gotten away (more than a night or two locally) since before the twins were born! We are so very grateful for the help so we could do this! Thank you, Grandma!

In a super fun surprise, some of our friends also decided to come last minute and it was so much fun to have trip buddies!

We had a direct flight to Rome overnight.

And arrived bright and early Wednesday morning. We hopped on a train from the airport to downtown and headed to a quick breakfast outside the National Museum of Rome.

We still had all our luggage with us while we walked around town, but thankfully we were able to leave it at the museum while we were visiting.

The museum was very cool, with many statues, sarcophagi, paintings, and other art.

Then we walked to our AirBnB to check in, which had a cool view of the Colliseum.

We all showered and headed out to dinner. We stopped at this restaurant in Palazzo Navona called Bernini recommended by a co-worker. There was a cool obelisk and fountains, but they were under construction for the Jubilee they're having in Rome next year. I didn't know about this, but I'm glad we came this year instead of next - it'll probably be mobbed.

We had aperol and limoncello spritzes - apparently a tradition in Italy.

From there we headed to L'Antica Birreria Peroni for dinner.

In the midst of the eating, we saw sights! We started at the Pantheon. It was beautiful! I would have loved to see rain or snow fall through the oculus though!

We visited the Trevi Fountain, which was PACKED!

We saw the Spanish Steps and Bernini's Fontanna della Barcaccia.

And then we wandered the city a bit.

Rome is also known as the City of Seven Hills and boy were there hills. We climbed several - this one having a statue of Marcus Aurelius - Replica Statua Equestre di Marco Aurelio and the Colossal Statue of Constantine I.

We all ended the night exhausted - especially Chris who didn't really sleep on the plane or take a nap at the AirBnB before dinner.
