Yorktown Tea Party

I had the opportunity to go on a unique field trip with Jane! 2024 is the 250th anniversary of the lesser known Yorktown Tea Party and they did a reenactment with schools this year.

The kids all got to visit 8 historic houses inhabited by loyalists, patriots, and neutrals where each tried to convince them which side to take.

Then they marched down the hill from town to the river chanting, "Dump the Tea!!"

It was a fun field trip!

KelRae Farms Field Trip

I got to go with the twins on a field trip to KelRae Farms. They were very excited. It was inordinately hot for April so there was a lot of water drinking since there was little shade to be found.

The kids got to go on a tractor ride...

We had a great time! They did hide under the table during lunch to try to get some shade...

They got to pick kale (and 6 other types of lettuces) that we washed back in the classroom. They had salad for a snack.

The reason for their trip was because they hatched baby chicks in school last month. Two weeks ago they had to give them away to the farm, and then they got to go visit them!

They fed the bigger chickens...

And they got to enjoy time with friends and craft bird feeders.

They had a great time despite the heat. It was a fun Kindergarten trip!

Virginia Zoological Park

Rosie and Ben had an end of year field trip to the Norfolk Zoo. I had never been before but it was actually great!.

Monkeys in a cage:

A porcupine!

I haven't spent a ton of time in zoos outside of the Smithsonian one in D.C. but I was quite impressed by this one!

The kids also had a blast and enjoyed celebrating the end of the year with a little field trip.

The rest of Spring Break

We got home from our spring break trip just in time to catch TWO of my college roommates who were in town to visit Williamsburg.  I was so glad we had the opportunity to get together before they headed back home.

We joined them at Jamestown Settlement to be tourists for the morning.

The ships were a big favorite for everyone.

I made my kids put on the armor at the forts since it wasn't too crowded.

We've been here quite a bit - both the older girls had field trips here this year, so it was nothing new, but still fun to experience with friends.

Jane sitting where Queen Elizabeth sat in the church...apparently.

Dave was kind enough to read Ben some Avengers books.

It was so good to see these lovely ladies.

And their kids!

And then it was on to Easter!

Virginia Living Museum sleepover

Eleanor and Jane had a very fun opportunity to sleep over inside the Virginia Living Museum - it literally was a night at the museum! We showed up with sleeping bags (and an air mattress for me) and got to see sea stars, turtles named Mango, and all sorts of animals in between.

We saw a Planetarium show...the guy next to me fell asleep and started snoring.

Eleanor liked this seahorse...

There was story time before bed...

A scavenger hunt...

And I liked the jellyfish - very mesmerizing.

Overall it was just a very cool experience to sleep in a museum!

Meanwhile, at home, Chris handled these three like a champ.
