Swim Top Times 2025

Summer swim was a great experience again. It was Eleanor's 7th season, Jane's 6th, and Ben's and Rosie's 4th. They all moved up an age bracket this summer putting them in the bottom half of their groups so it was a much more relaxed season where they weren't swimming for points in every meet and just had fun!

Eleanor had a great swim season earning champs cuts in all 5 individual events on her first swims this year. For not being a year round swimmer, she is incredible! She has a lot of competition on our team but really rose to the occasion and worked hard. It was fun to see what she could do each week. She also spent some time volunteering with the goldfish group helping them learn how to make it across the pool. She ended up not swimming in champs this summer because champs fell on the same weekend as the Student Ministries Summer Retreat, and while it was a bummer not to see her compete at the highest level, we were very happy she chose to go to the retreat.

Eleanor's Top times:

100m Individual Medley: 1:33.19 seconds
50m Freestyle: 35.34 seconds
50m Breaststroke: 46.11 seconds
50m Backstroke: 46.50 seconds
50m Butterfly: 41.93 seconds
200m Freestyle Relay: 2:23.00 seconds (exhibition with Jane, Remington, and Bella)

Jane finished up what will likely be the hardest swim season for her: age 9. At 9 the kids switch from 25m swims to 50m swims and it is quite a challenge. She worked a lot on her turns and still crushed it in the pool earning 3 champs cuts (breast, back, and fly). She was less than a second away from a free cut and 5 seconds away from IM. She got better and faster with every meet and while the change to 50s was a struggle, she met the challenge well!

Jane's Top times:

100m Individual Medley: 1:59.78 seconds
50m Freestyle: 43.69 seconds
50m Breaststroke: 51.59 seconds
50m Backstroke: 52.62 seconds
50m Butterfly: 55.88 seconds
200m Freestyle Relay: 2:23.00 seconds (exhibition with Eleanor, Remington, and Bella)

Ben is always here for the good times and every time we looked over at clerk of course he was holding court and making people laugh. He's definitely all about the experience and while he is excited when he swims fast, he's more interested in having fun. He earned a champs cut in fly, swam his first breaststroke in a meet, and dropped time in every stroke. We are very proud of him!

Ben's Top times:

25m Freestyle: 23.81 seconds
25m Breaststroke: 52.15 seconds
25m Backstroke: 34.52 seconds
25m Butterfly: 27.06 seconds

Rosie is very determined and made great strides in swimming this season. She worked hard at practices and earned a champs cut in breaststroke. She also was less than a second away in back and less than 2 seconds away in free. She swam her first butterfly in a meet and was actually very impressive! If they hadn't DQed her, she was well under the champs cut. She is silly and very attached to the coaches, especially Coach Holly, whom I'd have to quite literally peel her off of with regularity. She also let her fierce personality shine through more this year!

Rosie's Top times:

25m Freestyle: 24.83 seconds
25m Breaststroke: 30.19 seconds
25m Backstroke: 29.94 seconds
25m Butterfly: 33.08 seconds (technically they DQed her for a non-simultaneous touch, but it looked like a 2-hand touch to us so it my book it counts!)

We are so grateful for our summer swim team and, as always, feel sad that it's over. Looking forward to next summer!

Swim 2025

Summer swim is one of my favorite seasons of the year. All four kids are on the same team cheering for each other and trying to swim their best. Swim season started out with a bang with a meet against Edgehill - a friendship meet. Eleanor and Jane were at camp and missed the meet but Rosie and Ben had a great time.

The girls' first meet was against Wellington:

Rosie made her first family dinner - mac and cheese, pizza rolls, and green beans.

Our favorite away meet is always Fords. Rosie and Jane got a few heat winner ducks and I think Ben and Eleanor each got one, too.

Kingsmill was our last home meet of the season:

Greensprings had lots of the kids' friends:

Kingswood was the only meet we lost! And we only lost by 3 points. It was a tough meet.

Champs was a great meet this year. Eleanor didn't swim because she was on a church retreat, but the other three did.

Rosie after PRing in breast:

Antelope, Bonnie, and Riser came to watch!

At the clerk waiting for fly:

Everyone came away with a ribbon from champs (which means they scored in the top 16). The next day we had an end of season party. Coach Dillon dyed his hair pink because the kids won Champs. Ben made little drawings for each coach and Rosie and Jane made bracelets and key chains:

We've have luckily had the same coaches three years in a row, which is incredible: Dillon, Georgie, Niamh, Louisa, Holly, Brooke, and Elly.

The 7/8 year olds:

The 9/10s:

I didn't get a picture of the 11/12s because Eleanor was on the SM retreat. Then the hair dying happened!

Jane and Rosie with Rosie's favorite coach, Holly. It was a really fun season and we are sad to see the end of it!

Kid in a cap

At a Flyers Fun Friday the other week they did kids in a cap! Both Ben and Rosie got to go in (separately). I believe they got to 6 kids (our team record is 8 I think).

Rosie going in:

Ben going in:

Jane watched from the sidelines (too much trauma from when she played kids in a cap when she was younger) and Eleanor was old enough to be on the outside of the cap this time.
