Honey hive

Can you tell what this is?
Someone in our neighborhood has decided to try his/her hand at bee keeping.  Chris doesn't ever want to walk by their house again - the place is swarming with them!

I, on the other hand, am currently reading a book that briefly touches on bee keeping and think it's fascinating.  Did you know that there is such a thing called a "bee smoker"?
This contraption sends smoke in the direction of your bees to drug them up so that you can get the honey out of their hive without them stinging you.  They even sell starter kits for bee keeping online (which I will not be purchasing - it's not that fascinating).  Anyway, you learn something new everyday!  The more you know...

Our neighbor does it as well and he sells to the local farms. It is a hobby. We are in the backyard all the time and never have an issue.
