Oh back to school, back to school...

Well I didn't think this would be happening so soon for me.  I am back in school.  Sigh.

When I was applying for jobs last summer, tons of them wouldn't even consider people who did not have a graduate degree in something, so it became apparent that at some point I would probably need to get a master's degree to continue in the field of athletics.  As it turns out, Longwood offers a part-time MBA program for people who have full-time jobs, and the entire program features online classes, so there's some nice flexibility there too.  Once Katie decided to do nursing school and we knew she would be busy with school all the time, we both figured that if one of us was going to be busy, then we might as well both be busy.

Longwood offers a nice tuition discount for employees, so I started taking advantage of that this summer when I took my first graduate class: Financial Management.  It was a pretty tough course, and it was packed into 8 weeks, but I managed to pull out an A which I am excited about.  4.0 GPA!  I haven't had a 4.0 since I took Algebra I in 8th grade and that counted on my high school transcript.  Starting this upcoming fall semester, I will be taking two classes per semester, and hope to finish by the summer of 2013.

Another feature of Longwood's MBA program is the summer residency, where they require all MBA students to come to campus for a Thursday through Sunday in July.  Students live on campus, attend seminars and guest speakers, and work on cases in teams.  Here is my dorm room:

Nice right?  I hadn't slept in a dorm since my freshman year in Taliaferro Hall.  I also was certified in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and I have a sweet certificate to show for it:

What a hard-working student I am.  The residency was also good because we got to meet several of the faculty members who teach in the MBA program, so I met some of my professors for some upcoming classes.  This fall I will be taking an accounting class and a marketing class, so I'll have some new challenges in just a few more weeks.

Having classes again is going to make my life a lot busier, but now is as good a time as any to get on with it.  At least now I'll be able to get the student discount at movies without feeling guilty about it.  Hooray for discounts!  I'll be sure to keep you guys updated with how my school is progressing or if I have any sweet stories.

Good for you Chris! Get after it. I won't be surprised if Alex and I jump on the grad school bandwagon some time soon. Maybe we can relive the good parts of college one day too, like spring break :)
