I saw the Lama

The Dalai Lama came to Williamsburg today and I took the opportunity to go hear him speak. The event was recorded, so if you'd like to hear it, too, you can listen/watch here. The place was obviously very crowded; something I haven't seen since the W&M v. ODU game in 2010.

The guy who introduced him handed him a W&M visor and he put it on for his address causing a standing ovation from everyone in the Hall. It was a pretty incredible to hear one of the world's most prominent religious leaders speak... His speech focused primarily on human rights, the fact that we are all human regardless of race, religion, nationality, etc. and on harmony regardless of faith. He also stressed the importance of having compassion and promoting happiness for everyone.

I actually took a couple videos, but since I linked to a much higher quality video if you're interested, I'm not going to post them. The best and most unexpected part of the event was that he was funny! And he has the best and most contagious laugh I've ever heard. He had some fantastic anecdotes and was genuinely a pleasure to listen to. It was a great event sponsored by the College...now I've seen both the Queen of England (2007) and the Dalai Lama here!
