Saturday in Harrisonburg

The Saturday we were in Harrisonburg, my mom and sister (a JMU alum) drove down to spend the day with us. We met up at the Harrisonburg farmer's market, which was way nicer than I remember it being, probably because the last time I went it was during the winter. You know you are actually buying home-grown products when you are buying from Mennonites. Eleanor got the chance to meet Lauren's best friends who still live in Harrisonburg, and there was a huge art sculpture (?) spelling "LOVE" that we took some great pictures with. Can you spot Eleanor?

From there we headed over to the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum on JMU's campus and walked around enjoying the sunshine. We fed the ducks and Eleanor tested some fountain water with her toes.

She was a little warm, so we decided to find a slightly cooler spot to spend the rest of the afternoon.

We picked up some sandwiches and went to Blue Hole to picnic and put our feet in the water. It was a bit of a hike/walk to get there through the woods, but was totally worth it because of its beauty and peaceful location. The water is super blue where it's deep enough to jump off the rocks. I definitely didn't come prepared to swim. It's October! Who would have thought it would be so nice? Eleanor also stuck her feet in the water here, but was not a fan because the water was so cold. I was very impressed by how well she did while we were hiking on the rocks and through the woods, though.

The rest of the evening before they had to leave to get back home, we just spent taking a lazy stroll around downtown Harrisonburg, including a stop for ice cream.

Going into the day, I have to say, I was a little concerned about not having a home-base close by that I could feed her, change her diapers, and lay her down if she was tired, but she was amazing. She ate wherever we stopped to take a break, I changed her diaper whenever I found a flat surface, and she slept when I put her in the moby to walk around. She was so good all day long that I didn't even mind when she finally cried in the car on the way back to where we were staying that evening.
