Last weekend, Ashleigh and Jessie decided last minute to head down for the day to spend a few hours with Eleanor (and us). We went to church in the morning and then, despite it being overcast, took the ferry over to Surry to go blueberry picking. We went to
College Run Farms - the same place we went
pumpkin picking last fall, and it was completely worth it. Because it was cloudy, it wasn't unbearable hot. Plus they started serving their blueberry ice cream this week. I've tried their pumpkin ice cream but missed their strawberry ice cream last month. I'll have to try to make it next year.
On the ferry:
Picking berries:
Eleanor picking - we had to watch her so we could take away the unripe berries before she ate them, but she really did very well on her own. It was a very messy process, though, as you can tell from the aftermath pictures of her eating ice cream.
The spoils:
Blueberry ice cream after picking:
And once we got home, I baked a blueberry cake! I think I'm going to have to do more baking to use up some of these berries.
Thanks for coming down and picking with us Ashleigh and Jessie!
