Ben is one month old

Ben is one month old today. The first month of life consisted mostly of sleep, because theoretically he shouldn't have even been born yet. Today is his actual due date - December 9th! Ben took approximately 3 weeks to get back up to his birth weight after dropping down to 5 pounds, 1 ounce in the hospital. He hung out around that weight for almost a week before starting to gain back. The doctor thinks he was burning too many calories nursing, so we started pumping and giving him a bottle a couple times a day so he wouldn't have to expend as much energy. He nurses well and is a slow, but very thorough and clean bottle feeder.

Ben doesn't cry much now unless he is hungry or wants to be held. He is more inclined than his sister to cry for being set down. He likes being swaddled at night but we frequently find that he has somehow gotten his hands up near his face by morning. He loves laying next to his sister in a car seat, stroller, bouncer, moby wrap etc. Ben loves the pacifier and does a decent job of keeping it in his mouth. Ben has also found his thumb on a few occasions, though we try to discourage that as much as possible! He eats every 2-3 hours and sleeps between almost every feed. I feed him before bedtime around 10 pm and then he wakes up around 2 am and 6 am to eat again, so we are getting around 4 hour stretches of sleep at night. We actually wake up both babies at the same time to eat and usually it is Ben waking up (and then we just wake Rosie). He's working on his neck control but doesn't hold his head up yet well - but we also don't do much tummy time yet.

Last we weighed him, he was 4 weeks old and weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces.

He is so alert in these pictures! To me, he already looks more like the active one. Glad you posting these updates, so nice to see their progress!

He does like the pacifier! He seems pretty calm most of the time. Those jerky movements are so precious.

I can't believe those legs - my bet is he is going to be tall! What a sweet boy!
