Memorial Day weekend was a much needed break for our crew. We started with a quick impromptu trip on Thursday to Busch Gardens for the last members-only Big Bad Wolf ride time. I walked to the bus stop after working inside all day and realized how amazing the weather was, so we pivoted and headed to Busch. We only had an hour before it closed, but we fit a lot in and came home to eat dinner still at a normal time!
Then we got a call asking if Jane would be willing to play in a soccer tournament over the weekend. She tried out for a team this last month that starts in the fall, but they wanted another player for the Williamsburg Invitational. We had no plans this weekend so she was all in and excited to be asked. She got more playing time this weekend in four games than she got in the entirety of last soccer season on her rec team. She did great despite not having been a part of this team this year. They won two games and lost two.
Saturday night we had a neighborhood picnic. The kids got to see friends they don't often get to see and we got to chat with neighbors we don't often get to see (we have a big neighborhood). Rosie got her face painted and all four of them spent time in the pool.Sunday was church, then more soccer for Jane, so I took the kids over to Water Country for a short visit. The high for the day was high 60s/low 70s so the park was not crowded! I stayed dry the entire time, but they had a good time since there were no lines.
Monday we spent the majority of the day at home. We have gotten so behind on yard work, school work, organization, cleaning, etc. and the kids are just exhausted by this time of year. Everyone went to bed early Sunday, woke up late Monday, and just generally tried to catch up on life. We divided up the girls' clothes - they have shared clothes since they were 3 and 5 years old, but with increased arguing and fighting, it's now time. We went to our annual small group cook out that evening and then got ready for finishing out the school year!
We are very grateful to live in a country where we are free to make choices and especially grateful to the service women and men that make enable that freedom. Thank you to our armed forces, and particularly to those people and their families who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.
