For Jane's 10th birthday, she and I went on a trip to New York City! Eleanor went to Florida when she turned 10 to do Harry Potter World, and Jane decided then that she wanted to do NYC. It was finally time! We booked an Amtrak up on a Thursday afternoon, which unfortunately got cancelled. We had to take the next train up, which was longer and later, but after that, travel went smoothly!
We played cards, Kings in the Corner, War, Rummy, Jane crocheted and listened to music, and we read books.
Auntie Jessie met us at the station despite the late hour and Jane decided she still really wanted to try to see Times Square. We walked over, but she faded fast. En route there and back to the subway station we saw the Empire State Building, Macy's and Herald Square where the Thanksgiving Day Parade is, and the building from Only Murders in the Building.
We went straight to bed and then got moving in the morning with a stop for breakfast at Maman.
And then headed toward Serendipity for frozen hot chocolate. We inadvertently ordered a Dubai frozen hot chocolate because I didn't know it was pistachio. I'm allergic to pistachios and it ended up being a blessing in disguise because the drink was $100 and they replaced it for us with something I could drink!
It did have gold flecks...
Jane at too much and almost didn't rally. We still cut our afternoon a bit short for her to go home and recover before the evening!
After some downtime at the apartment, we headed down to George Keeley's (Jessie & Henry's local pub) for dinner.
Another late night!
The next morning started with some Georgie time and then we headed to Zabar's to get some bagels and pastries for breakfast.
...and the World Trade Center Memorial. The last time I was in NYC was in 2012 and the site was still Ground Zero with tape around it and One World Trade Center was still under construction.
From there we headed down and saw the New York Stock Exchange.
From there we decided to walk across the Brooklyn bridge!
We took the train down to Coney Island once we were over in Brooklyn.
And then we walked down the boardwalk to Luna Park.
And then we were off to a Brooklyn FC game!
Melissa, Chris' cousin, met us at the game with some of her friends.
They tied the game 2-2. It was really fun!
Then, since we knew we had a long train ride ahead it was back to Nathan's for a milkshake.
Jane started crocheting a cat hat for Georgie that night.
The next morning we had to say goodbye. Jane was so, so sad.
She finished her cat hat on the train!
It was a great trip!
