Oeschinensee and Harder Kulm

Early on day five, we headed to our local bus stop in Ringgenberg to head to the train station.

From Ringgenberg we headed to Kandersteg for our hike!

We took yet another gondola up a mountain...

...so we could embark on our hike around Oeschinensee.

It was a long and steep climb, but our first views of Oeschinensee were beautiful!

And, of course, we got to do all this hiking with the lovely and calming sound of cowbells surrounding us.

The climb down from the top was very steep.

After the looooong hot hike we finally made it down to the beautiful lake! It was quite chilly, but not as cold as the glacier stream coming off Titlis.

After swimming on an off for an hour or so and eating lunch by the lake, we headed back down to the Kander Valley to Kandersteg. Kandersteg is the home to the Belle Epoque and Hotel Victoria, where everyone pretends it's 1913. We saw several people dressed up promenading near the river.

From Kandersteg we went back to Interlaken, showered and changed, and headed out to dinner at Harder Kulm to watch the sun set. We had to wait quite awhile for the funicular up the mountain.

But it was beautiful once we got up there! We ate at the Panorama Restaurant.

We did fondue with gruyere and vacherin.

We took lots of pictures looking down at Interlaken.

It was just such a beautiful setting and we enjoyed eating traditional Swiss food. I got schnitzel and Chris had Aelper Roesti.

Then we headed back down the mountain to watch the last of the paragliders come in. We would have stayed up there, but the last funicular down was at 9:40 and we were told the hike down takes between 2 and 3 hours. After hiking Oeschinensee, we weren't willing to risk it!

It was another great day!
