Lacrosse

Another season of lacrosse in the books! This year it was just the girls. They all love the sport and Ben was a little less excited about it last year. 

Rosie grew dramatically as a player this year. I think she scored either 0 or 1 goal last year. This year she ended with 48. She was a dominant player on her team despite being a 2nd grader on a 2nd/3rd grade team. We're looking forward to seeing what she does next year! She played almost exclusively middie and seemed to enjoy it.

In the last game of the season, she had to rock paper scissors Ada for who had to be in goal (the only two on their team who hadn't done it yet). While they scored on her quite a bit, she did have two saves!

Jane's fourth season on the Warriors was challenging as she had a good thing going last year with several of her teammates that moved up onto the middle school team this year. The girls played full field (12 players) with a roster of only 13 girls. This meant there were entire games with no subs. They played hard though and won about half their games. Jane also plays almost exclusively middie, only sliding into attack or defense when she needed a break and they had no subs. I think she ended the season with around 30 goals - definitely a leading scorer on her team.

Eleanor came out of nowhere this year with an incredible knack for defense. Last year, moving up to the middle school team was tough as they moved to a bigger field, had a large team with not a lot of playing time, and she was just smaller than most girls. This year she proved to be a great asset to her team, preventing goals, causing turnovers, and moving the ball back up the field.

Lacrosse

All four kids played lacrosse again this spring - Eleanor and Jane's third season with the Warriors and Rosie and Ben's second. 

Rosie played up on the 2nd/3rd grade team this year because the K/1 team was too big. Since they only play 4 a side, she wouldn't get much playing time so she moved to the higher team where they play 7 a side. Their team was in a growth year with a lot of new players. Rosie played mostly attack or defense this season. She ended up scoring a goal and while their team didn't do amazing overall, they had a good time!

Ben also played up on the 2nd/3rd grade team to be with friends. He probably could have stood to stay on the younger team but really wanted to play with his buddies. He was a little iffy on lacrosse again this year. He doesn't seem to like the physicality of it, but whenever we offer other sports to him, he insists he likes it and wants to play. He rotated through all positions this year and really seemed to have everything finally click the last weekend. Ben also scored a goal this season.

Ben had to play goalie one game (everyone on the team had to take a turn). He was very nervous and didn't like it but was brave!

Jane's team was competitive this year. She played middie almost exclusively, only sliding to defense very occasionally when required to. Despite being the youngest player on her team, Jane was one of the leaders this year. She loves lacrosse and was a big contributor. She was the most consistent on the draw and when they were down 8-5 with less than a quarter of the game left against the 1st place team, she went in, took every single draw and helped her team to a quick 4-goal comeback to win. Her team won the championship for 11u girls! Her coach gave her to focus award this year and she says she ended the season with 17 goals.

Eleanor joined the middle school team this year! Her team was very good and had a great season, but unfortunately lost the championship game to end up in 2nd place. She played mostly defense or attack. She scored a goal on an 8 meter shot after a shooting space call. She is loving the sport, too, despite being a younger player with generally less playing time. It's a fun group of girls!

We are bummed the season is over - it's one of my favorite sports seasons! Go Warriors!
