What happens when you forget to run the dishwasher...

I got home from work and walked into the kitchen thinking that I'd get dinner started.  That's when I noticed that there were quite a few dishes piled up in the sink.

My first thought was, "Hmm... I guess I should load these into the dishwasher so I have room to make dinner and that way there will be fewer dishes to do after dinner."  ...Only to open the dishwasher and realize it's pretty much packed as tight as it can be already.

My second thought was just leaving the dishes until after dinner but I quickly realized that doesn't solve the problem.

My third thought was to briefly consider doing the dishes by hand.  And that lasted until I remembered that I already spent over a year doing that in our old apartment and I have a dishwasher now.  Let the dishwasher do its job!  It wants to do its job.  It wants to feel like a productive member of our household.  So I jammed as much as possible into the dishwasher and started to run it.  Happy now, dishwasher?

After all that, I finally started dinner.

That's when I realized that since I didn't plan in advance and decided not to do the dishes by hand, now I'm relegated to using a seasonal cookie spatula since my normal one is being scrubbed clean by my happily humming dishwasher.
And yes. I realize it's already four months past Christmas :)

I like that you consider your dishwasher a productive member of your household! That chicken looked awesome - were you making chicken parm? I don't think the chicken cared that you were using a gingerbread man!
