Home away from home

While we were in Williamsburg a few weeks ago we were able to spend a little bit of time on our college campus.  It was a really hot day, but we braved the heat to enjoy our school while we could.

These old, sometimes crumbling, sometimes uneven bricks always remind me of W&M.  In fact, part of the reason we chose our first apartment was because it reminded us of our days in Williamsburg.  The apartment was in an old brick building with a lot of character - actually considered a historical landmark.

I took a picture of this building because I really wanted to share it with you all.  It holds a special place in my heart.  Picture me at 18, having just left home for the first time, and the college assigns me an adviser housed in a building called "the South Outhouse".  The South Outhouse was one room (an office) and existed in a corner of campus.  I couldn't locate it on a campus map so it took me forever to find and I was late to my first ever advising meeting as a freshman.  Not to mention the fact that the building was so old it didn't even have a doorknob.  There was a piece of rope strung through small hole in the door and when you pulled it, it opened the door.  I was definitely a little scared on the way to my first meeting :)

These last couple pictures are just more places I love on campus.  The sunken gardens (first picture) is just a really nice place to hang out.  It's basically a field that's been lowered a few feet into the ground - just picture a giant grassy pit.  It's a lot nicer than it sounds :)  The last picture is just of one of the walkways on campus.
