Smecks

Unofficially, Chris and I have a new family member - an outdoor cat that has been hanging around our place for the last 6 weeks or more. I have not once fed him (because Chris doesn't want me to and because I don't want him to become dependent on us when we can't keep him) and have only pet him once or twice and he just keeps hanging around! If we are in the dining room or deck he will sit out on the deck and cry. If we are in the living room, he will sit at the front door and cry. If we are in the kitchen, he'll sit outside the kitchen window and cry. And finally, if we're in bed, he sneaks around the back of the house and cries.

He is pretty darn cute. 

I'm not sure how exactly it came about, but seeing as how he kept hanging around, I named him Mr. Smeckles a few weeks ago. We call him Smecks for short. It is pretty hilarious when Chris tries to leave in the morning and has to push his head back out the door saying, "Get out of here, Mr. Smeckles!" We went home for Easter the weekend before this one and he didn't come around on Monday. I think he was angry that we were gone. But sure enough, Tuesday he showed back up. 

Lately, Smecks has been getting bolder. When we left for church yesterday we tried to nudge him off the top step so we could exit the house and instead of jumping down and running away, he just rolled over to his back and exposed his belly for scratching. 

Today I was sitting outside minding my own business and enjoying the sunshine and he jumped up in my lap! I was trying to ignore him but his meows just kept getting louder and all the sudden he hopped up onto my knees. Poor baby needs some love.
