Week 27

I am buckling down now to seriously work on a list of stuff we need for the baby. It's pretty confusing though when you've never done it before...for example: I know we need a crib. Well, in addition to the crib, you need a crib mattress, crib pad, crib sheets, sheet protectors, blankets, and maybe some bumpers for when the baby can actually flail around a bit. And I say need because I'm told you need all these things...but do you really need all these things?? And that's just the crib...

I ran into this predicament to a far lesser extent when we registered for our wedding (FIVE YEARS AGO!!), but it was far less confusing because I had lived on my own before and already knew the things I used on a regular basis to cook, eat, clean, and live: pots and pans, dishes, silverware, towels, sheets, a couch, etc. I have never taken care of a baby before except for in the hospital where all you need is the hospital's diapers, swaddle blankets and bathing supplies, and I never really babysat for babies growing up. All of these gadgets and supplies to keep a baby alive and happy seem like quite the mystery to me. All in all, as long as we've got the stuff to get the baby home from the hospital (a car seat and some form of diaper and clothing), then I think we'll be okay. But man, it is quite the process.
