Fourth of July weekend

We headed up to visit Chris' family for the weekend of the Fourth of July. We started out by seeing Eleanor's aunt and uncle's new place in D.C. While we were there we visited a local park and then went to visit her uncle at work to get a "pretzel treat." Eleanor was a little impatient while she had to wait, but truly enjoyed it once she got her pretzel.

That afternoon, we headed out to see where her other aunts work for the summer. She met a friend who gave her bread to feed the ducks.

That evening, we went out to watch fireworks nearby. Eleanor started getting tired around 8:30 and wanted to "go home" so by the time the fireworks started, she wasn't really into them. The next morning, however, she woke up saying "green, red, purple, boom boom sky." She continued to say that all weekend long, so clearly they left an impression on her even if she didn't love them at the time. It also rained much of the evening, so we spent a lot of time in rain jackets with umbrellas.

On the morning of the 4th, we headed to a nearby parade to watch yet another of Eleanor's aunts who was riding on a fire truck. Eleanor had a pretty good time watching all the floats go by and getting lollipops, except for the monster truck which was too loud and a little frightening for her.

In the afternoon we headed over to more family's house to celebrate the 4th with a barbecue. Eleanor had a great time playing with both big kids and dogs.

Sunday we spent the day lying low at home. Eleanor spent much of the weekend playing on her new "horsie ride" that family friends gifted to Gaby and Papa Laser.

Then we hit up the neighborhood pool.

Finally that evening we celebrated Uncle Robert's birthday with a surprise party.

We headed home late that night after spending a busy but fun weekend with family. Happy Fourth of July, and a huge thank you for those that protect our freedom. In the words of Eleanor, "Appy Birdday, 'Merica!"

I live in DC, and the pretzel bakery is my FAVORITE PLACE! How lucky you are to know someone that works there! Did you have a nutella bomb or two?
