Swim team 2020

Eleanor and Jane both joined the swim team in our neighborhood this year. Eleanor swam last year and we were unsure if Jane was going to be able to. Swim team is very different this year. Coaches can't get in the water so kids had to be able to swim the length of the pool independently to join the team. Jane was able to do it and is the youngest kid on the team this year. Last week they had their first "meet." Our team is not doing our local league this year so they are only doing intra-squad "meets" and seeing if they can beat their own times. Eleanor and Jane both swam together since they are both 6 & under, though they were on separate "teams." In the videos below Jane is swimming in lane 3 and Eleanor in lane 4. We are so proud of these girls for working hard this year!

Parents and siblings are not allowed inside the pool during practice or meets so Ben and Rosie and I watched from outside the fence. Chris was timing so he was able to be inside.

Eleanor clocked in at 29.8 seconds and Jane at 1:00.18 for freestyle.

For backstroke Eleanor clocked in around 38 seconds and Jane around 1:37.

Eleanor's times for both strokes improved from last year - freestyle time was cut almost in half and backstroke by just a few seconds. She would qualify for champs this year if our team was in the league. We were so impressed that Jane even made it across the pool on her back! Her freestyle time for her first official 25 is around where Eleanor was at the end of the summer last season. The girls have both been loving swim team and we are loving the structure.
